Before I start, I should mention I'm not a tidy person. I get absorbed in what I'm doing then, when I'm done, I see the next shiny thing and get absorbed in that. At no time is anything put back where I got it from, and I resent having to take time out of my focus on shiny things to do it. That means my office has stacks of books and papers all over the floor, the desk, on top of the filing cabinets, on top of the books in the bookcases... you get the picture. It's not pretty, and heaven help me if I want to find something I haven't needed in twelve months.
I've been thinking about cleaning up. I've sorted through two boxes and created a massive pile of papers I no longer need. I've bought a shredder and spent a weekend shredding things every time I walked past. I ended up with two big boxes of shredded paper, and at least three times that much waiting to be shredded, and then... you guessed it... the next shiny thing came along.
I'm not giving up. It's got to the stage where it's actually uncomfortable working here, so it has to be done. I've given myself a deadline. I want my office tidy by the end of June. I figure if I do an hour or so a week, it'll work. The room's not THAT big.
The picture shows one corner of my office, so you know what I'm up against.
Look at all the books there.
I'll tell you how the clean-up will go:
I'll start clearing things away from them and will tidy a spot about a foot square, then I'll see a book I haven't seen in a while, get all excited about it and then spend the next three hours reading it. ... hence the June deadline.
