Election Day

I don't have anything writing related today because I've spent the week ranting at the television. We have a state election being decided today and the lead-up has been interesting, to say the least.

Some points I've noted:
  • The current government asked the Prime Minister to stay away from the election campaign. Having listened to what Mr Abbott says and they way he says it, I'm not surprised.
  • The Prime Minister said it's okay not to be asked to participate in the campaign because the Premier has been a good government (not 'them'... 'he'). That reinforces what we've noticed over the last three years - the Premier is running things and no one else has any power. (Does anyone else remember the 70s and 80s and Joh?)
  • The current government has promised to spend billions on lovely things (not education or health), but all the money has to come from the sale of assets and will only last three years. After that, who knows where any money will come from. I guess it won't be their problem.
  • The current government criticizes the opposition for having such a small budget (in comparison), but the opposition has promised not to sell assets in order to make sure Queensland has an income into the future.
  • The Premier's own seat is in jeopardy; there's no back-up plan that I'm aware of for the leader of that party. The Premier's response was, "Ashgrove will go with government". You had to hear the tone of voice to understand that one.

As usual, the only party that has actually discussed policy has been the one party that has little power and no chance at all of getting into government. They still manage to stay focused on what governing the state is all about though.

So now I'm off to do my bit and put some pencil marks on pretty papers.
